Depreciation Calculator (Straight-line & Declining)
Build straight-line and declining-balance depreciation schedules from cost, salvage value and useful life.
Enter cost, salvage value and useful life to get the depreciation schedule.
Straight-line annual = (cost − salvage) ÷ life. Declining-balance annual = opening book value × rate. This is for accounting reference; confirm tax depreciation (statutory rates, life, immediate write-off) with an accountant.

Straight-line
Straight-line spreads the cost evenly: annual = (cost − salvage) ÷ useful life. A 10M asset with zero salvage over 5 years depreciates 2M a year.
Declining balance
Declining balance applies a fixed rate to the remaining book value, so more is expensed early and less later. Enter the statutory rate for the asset's useful life (e.g. 0.451 for 5 years).
Tax filing differs
This is for accounting reference. Tax depreciation follows statutory useful lives, rates and special write-off rules, so the deductible amount can differ — confirm with an accountant.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the two methods?
Straight-line expenses the same amount each year; declining balance applies a rate to the remaining book value, front-loading the expense. The tool shows both schedules.
How do I choose life and rate?
Useful life is how long you expect to use the asset. For tax, use the statutory life and declining-balance rate table (e.g. 0.451 for 5 years).
Can I use this for tax filing?
It is for accounting reference. Statutory rules can change the deductible amount, so confirm tax depreciation with an accountant.
Are the inputs sent anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
