Margin & Markup Calculator
Get margin, markup and profit from cost and selling price — or the price for a target margin.
Enter cost and price to get profit, margin and markup.
Enter cost and a target margin (%) to get the price that yields it.
Margin is profit as a share of price; markup is profit as a share of cost. Confusing them leads to mispricing. Calculate net margin (after VAT and card fees) separately.

How margin is calculated
Margin = (price − cost) ÷ price × 100. A cost of 7,000 sold at 10,000 earns 3,000 profit and a 30% margin. Because it is measured against the price, it is the figure people mean by 'how much this item makes.'
Margin vs markup
Markup = (price − cost) ÷ cost × 100 is measured against cost, so it is larger (about 42.9% in the example). Sourcing uses markup ('add X% to cost'); profitability uses margin. Confusing them causes mispricing, so the tool shows both.
Price for a target margin
Price = cost ÷ (1 − target margin). Enter a target margin and the tool returns the price that yields it — handy when pricing a new product.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between margin and markup?
Margin is profit as a share of price; markup is profit as a share of cost. Cost 7,000 and price 10,000 give a 30% margin but about 42.9% markup. The tool shows both at once.
How do I find the price for a target margin?
Price = cost ÷ (1 − target margin). Enter cost and a target margin (%) and the tool returns the suggested price.
Does this include VAT and fees?
No — it shows gross margin from cost and price. Net margin after VAT and card or platform fees is lower; check VAT separately with the VAT calculator.
Are the amounts sent anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
